If you have never used a grip-assisting weight lifting strap before, there will be a small learning curve before you completely understand how to use Rex’s Grip weight lifting strap and how it will help your strength training. Don’t worry Rex’s grip can be used for all pushing and pulling exercises by all levels!
Here are the specifics to use my weight lifting strap:
There is only one correct way to put Rex’s Grip on your hand. Slide your entire hand (all five fingers) through the top loop of the grip, furthest away from the leather “V”. The leather “V” has a natural curve.
The curve should be pointed towards the palm of your hand and fingers.

When Rex’s weight lifting strap is correctly on your hand the cotton strap material should be on the back of your hand, below the wrist joint. Simply let your hand and fingers point to the floor. This should put the grip in the correct position. The black elastic has been designed into the grip to keep the grip close to your hand and wrist at all times. Note: The leather “V’’ does not have to be fully wrapped around the bar or handle. To release the bar or handle open your hand.
I suggest practicing by grabbing a bar or dumbbell with your hand pointing down so that the leather “V” is also pointing down. Grab the gripping area of the dumbbell with the hand and fingers of the same hand. Then position the leather “V” of the weight lifting strap on the opposite side of the dumbbell gripping area.
Now, using your finger, grab the leather “V” of the weight lifting strap around the handle of the dumbbell and adjust as needed. Pick up the dumbbell and relax your grip and allow Rex’s Grip to take some, if not most of the weight of the dumbbell. You still have to hold on to the weight, but you don’t have to use a “death grip” to hang on.
Note: The leather “V” does not have to be fully wrapped around the bar or handle.
When you want to use the weight lifting strap to grab something with one hand, like over your head, do as follows. Use the thumb on the same hand that you are grabbing with and simply put the end or tip of your thumb in the leather “V” as shown. Note that the cotton strap material should be on the back of your hand below your wrist and your thumb should be brought back to the leather “V” and brought to the original position as shown in figure 5.
Now simply grab any bar, handle, rope or any type of equipment whether over your head, behind your back or below our knees. If your hand can grip it you can grab it with Rex’s Grip weight lifting strap. Note: Make sure that at all times your hand and fingers are completely through the top loop of Rex’s Grip when doing any exercise.
If you are doing an exercise that uses only one hand, there is another way to get your hand and Rex’s Grip weight lifting strap, not only into the correct position, but with the correct adjustment. Simply use your thumb of your opposite hand and push the leather “V” of the weight lifting strap around the gripping area of the equipment being grabbed.
For pushing exercises like bench pressing and other types of pressing moves, the leather “V” gripping portion of the weight lifting strap should lay in and against the palm of your hand. The leather “V” gripping portion should come in direct contact with the equipment being pressed. Make sure that you make hand and finger adjustments. The leather and the strap material will protect your hands.
If you are using dumbbells for both pushing and pulling with the same weight, you will be more concerned with controlling the weight. In this case, use the same grip position that is used for pulling with the weight lifting strap.
Note:Controlling your grip during an exercise that requires the hands is important. Control not only protects your wrist and hand, but it will help your technique and more strength will be achieved, I promise!
There is one more technique to grab a piece workout equipment that I want to mention: If you are using an opened end bar or handle, I suggest curling the leather “V” in your hand and slide it over the end of the bar or handle and then adjust your grip with your fingers as needed.
If you are using dumbbells for both pushing and pulling with the same weight, you will be more concerned with controlling the weight. In this case use this same grip position for both pushing and pulling with the weight lifting strap.
Note: On some pushing exercises you may not want to uses these grips. That’s ok! Sometimes the bare hand or gloved hand works ok too! Always try to use Rex’s Grips whenever you can.
Rex’s Grips fit loosely around your wrist and they never are in the way, but always ready to go when you need them.! Keep Rex’s Grips grips on your wrist at all times during your strength training workout sessions!
The leather “V” of Rex’s Grip weight lifting strap is the heart of this patented design. Make sure that at all times your hand and fingers are completely through the top loop of Rex’s Grip when doing any exercise.
Once you get the basic idea of using Rex’s Grip, you will understand the benefits within a very short period of time. Once you understand the benefits, your strength training will be a lot easier. You will be able to concentrate more on the muscle group being worked and have better technique. After about four to six weeks of training, Rex’s Grip will be as important to your training as your shoes are for running.
